I read a quote this week by Robert Fulghum that says: "Don't worry that little children don't listen to you; Worry that they are always watching you."
As a Student Pastor, this statement made me stop and think about the impact I as a Pastor and leader have in the lives of an up and coming generation. While it seems many times they aren't listening to what I have to say many of them can still quote me and the other teachers at verbatim.
However, it is not what I say as much as what I live out in front of them. When we as leaders teach one thing yet live something different people notice. We must realize that as leaders in today's society people are watching our lives just as much or more than they are listening to our words.
What kind of lives are we living before our children and before those we have been placed in leadership over? What kind of attitudes do we exhibit? What kind of things in our lives are affecting those around us more than our words?
When we realize that we are being watched, we do things differently do we not. The reality is we are being watched all the time. If not little eyes or following eyes, we must never forget that God misses nothing. Because of this we should live our lives from the same perspective we do when we know someone is looking over our should saying; "I'm watching you..."
