How Broke Are You?

This week while reading a Psalm of David something stood out to me clearer than ever about brokenness. In Psalm 51:16 David tells us "You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering. The sacrifice you desire is  broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God."

Many times we approach ministry and service for God from a wrong perspective. We focus more on the perfection of things that we miss the real point of worship and service. Don't get me wrong I do believe we should strive to give God our very best in everything we do. However, I don't believe it is perfection that God is looking for as much as brokenness.

Throughout Scripture we see many different broken things that God used to bring himself glory. In Judges, it was broken pitchers in the story of Gideon. In the New Testament, we see a broken alabaster box, broken loaves, and broken nets.

I guess what I'm getting at is, what is broke in our lives that God can use to not only bring glory to Him, but be used to advance His kingdom as well? If we follow the examples in the Bible we see it wasn't perfect people that God used throughout history, it was available yet broken people.

We shouldn't view the broke things in our lives as setbacks but rather as learning points and launching pads to do something great for God. Looking at the broken things in my life and the things I've come through, I have the ability to reach people that otherwise I couldn't have connected with. I've learned to use my scars as stories or testimonies as to what God wants to do in the lives of others as well.

So I close with the question; How broke are you? What is broken in your life that God can and wants to use to build and advance His kingdom?
