Stubborn or just plain foolish?

The more I read about the children of Israel the more I ponder this question. Were they really that stubborn or just plain fools? If any group of people throughout history should have had it all it was the children of Israel. Yet God calls them rebels in Ezekiel 12, saying, they have eyes but refuse to see, and ears but refuse to hear.

It is easy for us to read and study the lives of these people and wonder from time to time what in the world they were thinking and question why are they so stubborn and foolish. Why do they refuse to see? Why do they refuse to listen?

Yet the reality is many times in life we are no different. We choose the path of school of hard knocks over buying into wise counsel and learning from history. We think our way is the only way until we fall flat on our face and then are too arrogant to admit we were wrong and should have listened to wise counsel and been open to see things from a different perspective than our own.

Given the history of Israel and people in general all over the world, it is not by accident that the Spirit of God closes out every letter to the churches in Revelation 2 and 3 by saying; "Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches." Sounds to me like He knew how stubborn and foolish we can be.

In today's world it's time we start listening to something bigger than we are. It's time we start denying selfish gain and ambition and listening to what the Spirit is saying not just to the church but to us as individuals as well.

So I close with this: What am I, what are you, what are we being stubborn and foolish about concerning life and the things of God?
