Hosea 6:
3 Oh, that we might know the Lord!
Let us press on to know him.
He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn
or the coming of rains in early spring.” (NLT)
3 Yes, let us know (recognize, be acquainted with, and understand) Him; let us be zealous to know the Lord [to appreciate, give heed to, and cherish Him]. His going forth is prepared and certain as the dawn, and He will come to us as the [heavy] rain, as the latter rain that waters the earth. (Amplified Bible)
Currently in our youth group we are doing a series called Seven Checkpoints by Andy Stanley. In this study there are seven areas or checkpoints that every teenager should know or be aware of before they leave their parents domain. This last week we talked about spiritual disciplines.
Spiritual disciplines are things that I believe should be a part of everyone's life not just teenagers. Until we learn to develop certain disciplines in our lives, spiritually that is, we are never going to grow in our relationship with God. I am also a firm believer that as everyday comes and goes we should be that much closer to God. That is to say today I should be closer than I was yesterday, tomorrow I should be closer than I am today, so on and so forth, you get the point.
This blog is excerpts from my daily devotion time. I hate to write, therefore, I journal on my computer.
This particular passage of scripture really gripped my heart this morning as I was doing my daily Bible reading and devotions. "Oh that we may know the Lord! Let us press on to know Him." I don't know that we could ever have enough knowledge of God and what He wants to do in our lives.
Everyday I want to know Him. I want to love Him. I want to serve Him. I want to pursue Him with every ounce of energy I have. This should be every Christians desire, to know Him more. To press on to know Him.
I love the later part of this verse more than the first. "... He will come to us...". I believe the more we pursue Him that it will not go unnoticed and He will turn and catch us. In my opinion it is kind of like playing tag. As the it person you chase after everyone else. I believe that as we faithful follow after God as the it person wanting more of Him, He says you've chased me enough now I am catching you. At that point He just stops turns around and opens His arms for us to simply run into.
God is looking for those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. The Bible also tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people. That to me means He takes dwelling in the place where He is praised and exalted. I want Him to take a dwelling in me.
My prayer today is that I may know Him. As Paul wrote to the Philippian church he said, "That I may know Him in the power of His resurrection." I want to know God like that. I want to know Him more and more each and every day. I want to catch Him.
