Spiritual Prostitution

Ezekiel 20:30 = "Therefore, give the people of Israel this message from the Sovereign Lord: Do you plan to pollute yourselves just as your ancestors did? Do you intend to keep prostituting yourselves by worshiping vile images?"

I can remember the first question asked every year on the first day of history class in school, Why do we study history? The answer was always the same every year. We study history so history doesn't repeat itself. The problem is either we are slow learners or we are very learning impaired.

The children of Israel are prime examples of this. No matter how many times the Lord worked in their favor it was only a matter of time before they resorted back to worshiping other things. Rather we want to admit it or not God views this as spiritual or religious prostitution. God created us to worship him and him alone, not all the other things of the world that we allow to consume us.

We must be mindful of the things we allow to consume our time and energies. We must realize the things we allow to take the place of God in our lives actually becomes god to us. We must be careful to direct all of our worship towards God and not follow the example of the Israelites becoming guilty of committing acts of spiritual or religious prostitution against God.
