Giving My Best

While reading Haggai 1 this morning, I read a good verse that would cause us to check and examine the motives in which we do things or the motives by which we give things away. Verse 4 reads like this: "Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins?" Nothing like a good slap of reality early in the morning is it?

The children of Israel were making excuses as to why it was not time or the timing wasn't right for the Temple of God to be rebuilt. While they were making these excuses about the Temple they were living it up in their own homes. It didn't take long for God to become disgusted with their lifestyle while His house was going down in ruins.

God is not pleased with us when we live it up ourselves all the while setting back watching and letting His house go down the tube. I know you've probably heard it before, but I'm going to say it again; God deserves our best. Here is a good rule of thumb, if it isn't good enough for you then you probably shouldn't pawn it off on God either.

Question: How much better would God's house be and look if we put as much time, effort and energy into it as we do our own personal things and stuff? It is time that we not only give God our very best as individuals but that as churches we do things with excellence and not a half way job.
